We Met in a Bar

J Crew day, #3

Um, I need your honest opinion because my mind converts anything from J Crew into amazing, and I can’t tell if I like this dress or not.

We would get it in this color:

My color, J Crew, and under $175… all these things are making me think it is perfect. But I need to know if I am just going crazy or not. My 7 maids come in all shapes and sizes, and I wonder how flattering this would be on everyone… hmm   Thanks :)

My advice w/ J Crew bridesmaid dresses is to have your largest and smallest girls order the dress from their local store (won’t have to pay shipping if its shipped to the store) and then try it on to see if its flattering! That’s what we did w/ ours from J. Crew and it worked out great! Good luck!

This fabric hides nothing. So let your bigger girls try it on before making a decision.

If any of your girls have larger breasts, the neckline may not be as flattering, so it’s important that they try them on.

That satin fabric is not very forgiving. It clings and wrinkles very easily. If anyone thinks about sitting, they will get up and find wrinkled creases all along their midsection. It’s a hard fabric to wear, yet so many designers use it for expensive dresses.

Girls with curves get the say-so. That’s a tough fabric and cut to feel pulled together if you’re less than lean, so I’d order one and let one of your curvy girls try it on at home with her fave Spanx-type thing underneath. If she gives it a go, I’d say you’re in the clear. And you’ll both know right away if it’s doable or not.

On the model and mannequin it looks adorable, but isn’t that always the big tease?

I agree with Kate (what a shock) in that it must be tried on. I love it, but would need to see it on me.

It’s very pretty, but I agree with everyone in that it’s one of those dresses that you have to try on. It especially might not be flattering in the color you want…but if you like it that’s all that matters. What does the back look like??

I am not sure that my comment hasn’t already been expressed in those above… It looks pretty but Jcrew in general is spotty in how great things actually look on both for the shape and the color- I have a love/hate relationship with them for this. I would definitely have a few girls try this (and any of the Jcrew dress) on before making a decision.

As a more “well-endowed” girl, I would be concerned about the neckline. But it is a beautiful dress!

I went and looked at the website and the dress is hammered silk, which is going to be much better than I previously thought. I would still get anybody that has boobs or hips to try it on, but I’ve got both and I have a hammered silk dress from there and love it. I’m actually buying the gown you posted on #1. I’ve been waiting for it to come out. Very excited!

Just discovered your blog. you may have already decided on the dresses, but if not- jcrew special occasion dresses are ALWAYS on ebay. Especially if you choose a style from a previous season. The dresses I chose retail for $275 and we found all of them on ebay (new, with tags) for between $30 and $100.
