I love my ring.

Most blogs I read do a “bling” post, and I decided today it is time for mine   Let me start by saying that B and I aren’t your average engaged couple. There was no getting down on one knee, no surprise proposal. We were “unofficially” engaged for almost a year before I got my ring. And when I got it, we picked it out together and he put it on me right there in front of the Tiffany’s saleswoman.

You see, B and I are both very practical people.  Especially me. I don’t date a guy unless I think marriage is an option (which is why I have only had 2 boyfriends, including B) so we were talking “one day” “our kids” etc. much earlier than we started talking about our wedding day.  When we decided we wanted to get married, we were both excited, but to some people, no ring meant no wedding plans   So I waited. And waited. And waited. Until one day I couldn’t wait anymore (I had already started buying Martha Wedding magazines, and I wanted to plan my wedding darnit!). We “talked” about it, and decided that saving for a house and being financially secure was more important than having a big rock on my finger, so the next day we went to Tiffany’s (his idea  )

The original plan was to have me wear this for a while, and then one day, when more money had been saved, there would be a ‘real’ ring with a ‘real’ proposal. Well, after wearing it for a few weeks I decided. This was a ‘real’ ring, and what was the point of a ‘real’ proposal when we had already decided?

Thus, the story of my ring. I love it. It is simple and represents what an engagement ring is suppose to, that we have made a commitment to each other.  Plus, it is really fun to watch people try and say something nice about it after the shock of seeing it   You see, we live in Orange County, home of massive bling. But you know what, more often than not I get people praising it, commenting on how refreshing it is, how simply elegant. Yes, that is what we were going for… elegant…   I think it has also taught me to simply say “congratulations” when someone tells me they are engaged. If she offers her hand, great, let me look at that sparkler! But if not, then a simple congratulations is in order. And, if you pull that hand from by her side, you better be prepared with something nice to say. I recommend “simply elegant”.

1. Woke up with a migraine so I stayed home from work

1. Get us signed up for engagement encounter
2. Finally finish our apartment so that we can have a house warming party
3. Find Bridesmaid dresses
4. Start cooking more actual recipes/Take a yoga class

1. If you didn’t get it from the top questions, I like to watch corny reality TV shows on TLC
2. any pastry, especially ones with chocolate inside

4. taking up the entire bed

1. I grew up in the 909
2. I like putting brown sugar in my plain oatmeal
3. I volunteered for the children’s ministry at my church for about 4 years 
4. I would rather pay for coffee from the cart downstairs than get it free here in the office.

This is one of those “she should listen to her own advice” kinds of posts. I am a full supporter of miss matched bridesmaid dresses. Well, I was, until I saw this picture:

Now I am not so sure, at least with the grey dresses… maybe I m being anal… and it isn’t that I don’t trust my maids fashion sense, but what if the dresses all don’t look good together?? Hmm…

I haven’t gotten my veil yet, and we are thinking that my (amazing) mother is going to make it for me since the ones in bridal stores are ridiculously priced, so, Mom, maybe something like this?

I told you there would be a lot of posts I found this image on {frolic} and originally saw it in the J. Crew catalog that is sitting on my desk at home right now I am not really a ‘pink’ person, but is this not the perfect outfit?

Ok, I was looking through my “to blog about” folder, and it is overflowing! I keep saving them for days when I don’t have anything in particular to write about, but I think I add more to it then i use up, so posts will be heavy for the next week or so How gorgeous are these photos from Our labor of Love?  Love the dresses (grey!) and the bouquets… simply gorgeous.

Oh, and a side note, I was totally on the ball and refreshed the page just in time to see the newest items up on the Nie Nie etsy sale and had my eye on some gorgeous earrings, when a guy from the tech department comes up and starts asking me about fonts! He just walked away and when i went back… the earrings, and pretty much everything else, had been scooped up Yay for NieNie but boo for me.
