birds of a feather
UPDATE: check the comments for the Bride, Caroline’s details on her amazing wedding and tips on how to make yours amazing too, and within budget!
Going to the zoo is always a favorite of mine. You get to see all kinds of interesting animals that you really only ever get to see in a zoo, or on safari. Which is why whenever we would come across the peacock pin I would wonder “what the heck are they doing in the zoo?” You see my grandparents, up until a few years ago owned a lot of peacocks, which for most of my childhood would roam free in their huge backyard. My sisters and I would run out and pick up their gorgeous feathers, and we would often bring home peacock bouquets. Ever since then peacock feathers have held a special place in my heart. So when I saw this wedding, shot by Crystal and Mike of Toole Art Photography I had to ask if I could post it. The bride, Caroline is gorgeous, the food looks amazing and the “cake” included Krispy Kremes! Enjoy:

Always good to end with cuppage

This is Caroline, the bride!
) Brides & grooms need to remember to have fun at their weddings! We saw each other before the ceremony to take pictures and spent no more than a half hour after the ceremony taking wedding party and family pictures. We actually got to attend our own cocktail hour! We totally skipped a lot of wedding traditions, and have no regrets about it. Make it your wedding, not just anybody’s wedding. Everyone said it was so “us”!
Thanks so much for the compliments! Peacock feathers were my inspiration for the whole event. I too, think they are gorgeous. I even had a friend design a peacock feather invitation. (I can send you an image if you’d like.) This was actually quite a small budget wedding, you just have to be creative and get a photographer who can capture it all beautifully.
My tips:
*Pick a location that is so beautiful it requires minimal decoration.
*Choose a high-end full service caterer, but menu choices that are more economical. We did only self serve meat, cheese, and fruit (from my family store, R. Hirt Jr. Co.) for cocktail hour. People absolutely devoured it but it was so much cheaper than hot appetizers passed by waitstaff. For dinner we had buffet stations of Mexican and comfort food. It was an extremely reasonable price per person, but people raved that it was the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding (and some of the best in general).
*DIY and call in favors from friends and family!
A friend designed the invitations for us and we got them printed for free as a favor from my husband’s work associate.
I ordered the cupcake tree online and painted it and decorated it myself.
My husband’s aunt made and decorated the cupcakes and picked up the Krispy Kremes and set it all up on the day. This way, we didn’t pay for an absurdly expensive cake, cake cutting and serving, and the extra china and flatware needed for that. Instead of forcing cake down people’s throats when they’ve just finished dinner, they could grab cupcakes and donuts for the rest of the night when they felt like it.
*I got all my flowers from local farmer’s markets. I paid about 25% of what they would have cost from a florist (I checked!). We prepared all the flowers and made the bouquets the night before, and two of my friends set it up for me the day of the wedding.
I could go on and on!
DON’T skimp on the photographer. The day will before over before you know it and you’ll be dying to see pictures to remember it! Plus, they can make it look even more beautiful than it was in reality
We had AMAZING vendors that made the whole day so easy for us. Most importantly, Josh & I had SO much fun! (Perhaps a little too much
Good luck!

I would absolutely love to see an image of your invitation. I’m trying to design a fall wedding around the peacock feather, as well.
Hey, am really interested in working around the peacock feather and have already gotten some from a friend. My colors for the day will be aqua blue and apple green, any ideas………
