birds of a feather

UPDATE: check the comments for the Bride, Caroline’s details on her amazing wedding and tips on how to make yours amazing too, and within budget!

Going to the zoo is always a favorite of mine. You get to see all kinds of interesting animals that you really only ever get to see in a zoo, or on safari.  Which is why whenever we would come across the peacock pin I would wonder “what the heck are they doing in the zoo?”  You see my grandparents, up until a few years ago owned a lot of peacocks, which for most of my childhood would roam free in their huge backyard. My sisters and I would run out and pick up their gorgeous feathers, and we would often bring home peacock bouquets. Ever since then peacock feathers have held a special place in my heart. So when I saw this wedding, shot by Crystal and Mike of Toole Art Photography I had to ask if I could post it.  The bride, Caroline is gorgeous, the food looks amazing and the “cake” included Krispy Kremes! Enjoy:

Always good to end with cuppage :) Check out more of the amazing photos over at Toole Art Photography!

when is it too early?

I saw this picture here, taken by her.  They sell them here. And at Bev Mo. How fun would it be to have these for you and your girls while getting ready?  We are getting ready at 7:00 AM… to early for champagne? Or does that just mean we need to remember to bring Orange Juice? :)

tagged :)

I’ve been tagged by Brittany :)  Two awards, although neither is really and award, more of a subject :)  The first is the Bookworm award… I wish i had time to be a bookworm! The tag says I have to get the book closest to me and go to page 56th, then to the 5th line:

The book is called: Pocket Pal: the handy little book of graphic arts production (I’m at work!)

56th page, 5th line: Art preparation embraces all of the steps in getting the art and copy ready for reproduction. There are 2 basic steps: (1) the design or layout of a printed piece, and (2) the preparation and assembly of the various components for reproduction, either manually or electronically.

Fun, huh?!  :)

The next award is the Kreative Blogger Award, and for this you get to see 6 things I value/don’t value :)

Value:

Honesty
Faith
Love
Friends
Hard Work
Humility

Don’t Value:

Money
Things
Stubbornness
Ignorance
Slacking off
Pride

Still Need to Book:
Florist
Engagement Encounter

I’m not sure why I am putting off booking the florist. Part of me feels like this isn’t something that needs to be done right away. Part of me feels like I know nothing about flowers, so finding the right florist for the right price is going to take some research, and a few meetings. Not so keen on the meetings part. I should just get over it though, I think I know exactly what I want. And I think we are going to do our own centerpieces (in an effort to save money, however the time factor may cause me to just hand this over to a professional)  So really the florist would only be doing our bouquets, which I think I want to look like this:

(from here)

Just a bunch of white Ranunculus, with the same for the bridesmaids, only smaller, and possibly mixed with marigold colored ones. With marigold colored ones for the guys. Here is another option.

Here are some pictures of the look I want for the centerpieces:

(all from Martha)

Simple. Simple. Simple. I know that creating these centerpieces wouldn’t be so hard… it is more of the creating centerpieces while baking cookies for the favors part… and the who is going to set them all up the morning of part.

good news/bad news

Good news first (always) is that I purchased these items on my lunch break and barely spent over $100 (yay for sales!)

(this top in light pink and peacock blue)

(so cute!)

(perfect grey skirt)

The bad news… A few months back while at the South Coast J. Crew an employee told me that I could have them ship bridesmaid dresses there, without purchasing them, so that my girls could try them on to find their right size without having to order, and pay for, multiples or whatnot. Today at my local J. Crew the manager said that this was not the case :(  However, you can order them and have them shipped to the store, in order to bypass the shipping charge. Not the end of the world, but I was looking forward to a fun little “trying on” party :(

where it all began

25 years ago (Wednesday, i am a few days late) Mark and Karen were joined in holy matrimony.  And a very stylish matrimony at that. Notice the fingerless gloves and red bow tie :) Oh the 80’s… great years for fashion. Especially the hat, when are we gonna bring those back?  I love you guys! Here is to another 25 years (and then some!)
