hold it right there!
Good morning! It is a cold (but only like 60 something, it is supposed to be nice today
) brisk morning on this last day on 2008. I don’t know how you feel about it, but where the heck did the time go?! Personally I am excited for 2009. Excited to get married, travel (i have another destination question for you all later), move (our lease is up in November
) and to turn a quarter of a century. Freakin 25. When did I become an adult? This post is going to be about hair, but later I will ask for some tips on another honeymoon location, and I will finally complete the 6 interesting things about me tag I received from The Coffee Girl. But I think I may morph it into 6 resolutions, given the day and all.
Ok, on to hair. So, I have long, straight blonde hair. It has always been like that. Except 6th grade where I tried out the bob. Not terrible, but obviously not cute enough to keep it going. I don’t like to style it. I do put a flat iron on it to smooth it down, but if I were to just never blow dry it or anything, it would be… straight. And it detests the word curly. I don’t, it’s the hair.
Example. In 7th grade I was in Bye Bye Birdie at school. (Huge mistake, but whatever. I still have nightmares about the audition we had to do in front of class… singing… in front of 7th graders.) I had to wear my hair in a ponytail with the ends curled. I slept in rollers. I used three cans of hairspray. I had to re-curl my hair at every 5 minute break I had (big surprise I didn’t get a very big part) And by the end of the show my hair was one big, hair-sprayed straight mess.
So, you can see my dilemma when I fall in love with hairstyles like this:

Maybe my stylist has some magical fairy dust that makes straight hair that hates curls forget for a few hours…

I feel the same way about 09– bring it on!
My hair is the same way, except brunette. I have tons of hair that is very straight. It’s so heavy it doesn’t hold a curl at all. I’ve decided that I like my hair better when I’m in humidity because I don’t style it and it still has some bounce. I’m going with a relaxed updo, as much as I’d love to have it down.
So start using a volumizing shampoo/conditioner. ANd before you blow dry, use a volumizing cream or serum. Hair has to be trained!!!! Ask your hairdresser too, they always have tricks up their sleeves!
Happy ‘09!!
I’m Asian so I know what you mean about the difficulty of trying to get soft curls!! What you can do is get a perm. I know I know everyone has bad memories of 80’s perms but you can get one done for soft curls and it looks lovely. I got it done several times (it’s straight and natural now) and people always used to ask if how I curled it.
Email me if you got questions!
