We Met in a Bar

Well, the weekend is (almost) finally here! Bryan and I are having my family over for SuperBowl which means I will be cleaning… a lot… this weekend :)  Lucky it is supposed to be in the upper 70’s this weekend so I will open the windows and let the warmth and sunshine in!  Enjoy your weekend :)

Family. You are about to have your very own (me too :) ). Will your family involve children? Hopefully you have already had that discussion. No? Go now, this can wait….  Ok, now most of us have realized that in some shape or form, we are our parents. I am my mother in more ways than one.  But at the same time I have made conscious decisions to be different in certain areas.

Here are today’s questions:
1. What traditions and/or values do I like in my family and yours? How can we include these in our growing family?
2. What traditions and/or values from my family and yours do I dislike?
3. How many children would I like to have and when
4. Have we decided what form of family planning (pill, natural family planning, condoms, etc) we will use?
5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of one of us being a stay-at-home parent?
6. If we practice different faiths, in what faith will we raise our kids?

I am in love with this letterpress initial necklace from Erica Weiner Jewelry, originally seen over at Creature Comforts.

hmmm

So I was set on getting a ring bowl from palomas nest. They are cute, personalized and functional after the wedding. (I forget where I saw it but someone made theirs into an ornament after the wedding!!) And for $30 or so it isn’t a bad price.

(this one would be perfect for us because my birthday is on St. Patricks day and Bryan is Irish!  From Martha

But then I think about the traditional ring pillow. It would be so easy to make (for my mom… I don’t have a sewing machine yet) and would be cute. But my question for you is, what do you plan on doing with it after the wedding? Do you keep it in a little memories box or something? What do you plan on doing with your? And if you aren’t doing a pillow or a ring bowl, what are you doing?!

If you are just joining us, I am sharing some of the questions I found most helpful at Bryan and I’s Engaged Encounter weekend (pre-marital counseling retreat with the Catholic church). I recommend any form of pre-marital counseling, whether you have already gone over the “big” questions or not, there are a ton of small ones I am sure you missed (I know we did).  To see the other questions I have posted just click on “Engaged Encounter” in the categories section :)

One of the things we spoke about on our week was being “life giving”. Sounds kind of cheesy, and I admit sometimes Bryan and I will joke about how life giving we were that day, but really it just means that you serve those around you, especially your soon-to-be-spouse. Some examples of being life giving are being generous, supportive, sensitive and selfless.  It is so important to have a servants heart.  And not servant in like, one person is the servant and the other is in charge. Each person in the relationship should see themselves as a servant to the other. That way things are balanced and each person’s needs are taken care of.

Today’s questions:
1. Where in our relationship can I be more life giving to you?
2. When was a time that you were life giving to me?

tagged

I think i missed a tag… I am sorry! I am so terrible at remembering! So this time I am gonna copy and paste it, and save it in my drafts until I finish it! I would finish it now but we have some people coming for an RV they won from my work and I am the photographer extraordinaire who gets to capture the “giveaway”.

edit: it is now thursday morning. The Rv people were here until 6:30 last night! I haven’t even checked out the pictures yet but I can tell they will not be good… it was pitch black out! Oh well…

Ok, so here we go:

THE RULES:
Step 1: respond and rework—answer the questions on your own blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own.

Step 2: tag—eight other un-tagged people will be tagged.

So, here we go!

Make a list of things you can see without getting up: the ugly heart xray image on the wall, my water, the couches and table in the sitting area, the mock ups of the posters i designed that will probably never get printed… boring office stuff basically!

What were you like when you were five? I was a big sister who loved to play barbies, play with my friends at kindergarten (it was called Kiddie Korner, who wouldn’t love that?!)

What are you wearing now? work jeans, white button up J. Crew top, green payless wedges.

What color is your bedroom? Apartment white.

What’s the last thing you read/are currently reading? The Time Traveler’s Wife. (Read it!)

Do you nap a lot? No time.

Who was the last person you hugged? probably my mom

What’s your current fandom/obsession/addiction? obsessed with wedding stuff right now… addicted to the cookies I made the other night.

What was the last thing you ate today? nachos :)

What was the last thing you said aloud? I’ll stall them.

What websites do you always visit when you go online? mine, and then i go through every link on my blog :) facebook, craigslist lately…

What was the last thing you bought? Health Insurance (woo hoo!)

What are you listening to right now? Caress me Down by Sublime on 91x online

If you could have any super power, what would it be? Fly. For sure. Traffic sucks.

What is your favorite weather, and why? Southern California weather, because when you can go to the  beach the second week of January… well it doesn’t get much better.

What time do you usually get up? 7:00-7:30

What is your most challenging goal right now? Paying off my debt, keeping my job/finding a new one.

If you could have a house–totally paid for, fully furnished–anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be? Probably Capistrano Beach. By the bluff. So that way I would have at least one fully paid for house and could vacation anywhere else with the money I was saving from my mortgage!

Favorite vacation spot? San Fran, but I am sure I would say Italy or something if I had every been there.

What is your favorite children’s book? The giving tree. And Where the Sidewalk Ends.

Name one thing you just can’t resist no matter how bad it is for you: Pizza, fast food in general.

Who is your role model and why? Jesus. The world would be a better place if we each strived to be like Him just a little bit more each day.

What are your plans for today? Waiting for this person to come pick up their RV, then home, make dinner, work on some freelance work, then bed!

I was tagged by this lovely lady. And no, I am not gonna tag other people because I am a terrible blogger.  There you have it.

give me your number

My mom has a roladex. It is awesome. It is basic and plain and super old, but it serves its purpose perfectly. I have always wanted one, but the ones I find are always all fancy looking. I am drawn to this image because it looks like a basic roladex, kind of, and you don’t have to fill it all out because people do it for you :)
