We Met in a Bar

back to basics

Ok, mason jars. I was wary of using them because blue is not in our color theme but then I got over myself and realized that it would be more economical, more personal and in the end, more me. We have about 20 or so jars now, some blue, some white, some big and some small. I will probably buy a few more at the local antique shop just in case. I still don’t know how many tables we will have, which greatly effects the number of centerpieces we need, so we will see. Here are some images I found:

I think the last one is my favorite. With white dahlias and marigold colored pom poms, with maybe some thick grey ribbon around the belly of the jar… could be great :)

I am TOTALLY using Mason Jars. My house is full of flowers in mason jars right now. It’s just very me and I think they’re sweeter than any other option. I found really cheap jars here – http://www.thefind.com/query.php?query=ball+mason+jar&filtercategoryorder=DgEDCxYQBgoOGAwICRQFGQAA&filterqpcookie=%24%24K87ILy9ITE8tqSxItTXUAQA%3D&filterpagenum=3

I absolutely adore the idea of using mason jars as vases! I have so many pictures like these ones saved as inspiration.
One question though, what will you do with all of them after the wedding?

Allison: My mom collects them, and has about 15 already. I just bought 5 at a local antique store :) I am sure we will just continue collecting, and depending on how many extra we buy for the wedding we may give some out to family and friends after the reception is over. They are great to own and can serve many purposes… in a garden, holding odds and ends, etc.!

lovely! Have you also considered using mason jars filled with flowers hung on shepherd hooks for the ceremony? Well, that is if you are doing an outdoor ceremony :)

gracie: our church is inside, so we won’t be doing that, but I have seen that before and it is gorgeous!

That is a lovely idea. I’ve seen mason jars used in that way before.

*I’ve never seen mason jars used in that way before.

Mason jars are fantastic and I love your examples. I really wanted to use them until I realized how “loud” our reception room is. Wildflowers would work well too!

I kept trying to post this comment yesterday. I’m going to try one more time. I found wholesale mason jars here – http://www.thefind.com/query.php?query=mason+jar

Definitely a mason jar girl right here. How much have you been paying for them? Just curious. If you are looking to sell them post wedding-I would LOVE to take them off your hands. Gorgeous pics!

I’ve also been looking into the mason jar idea… how big do you think is appropriate for a 10 – 12 person round table though?

14 Heather { 01.10.10 at 8:33 pm }

jamie: For a round table of that size I would go with 2-3 jars of varying sizes. We found some that were about 12″ tall, but most were 7″ or 8″ tall. I think a mixture of jars in the center of the table would look really great!
