We Met in a Bar

my day: the cakes!

mmmm the cakes.

Some of you may remember the Gelato debacle. So we decided to go with a bakery in San Juan Capistrano that Bryan has been going to for lunch for years, The Dutch Bakery.  We ended up ordering all three types of cakes, 2 or 3 of each, to feed everyone.

(note the center cake… it was totally sinking! But it still tasted just as good!)

Tips: Traditional wedding cakes can be beautiful, but they can also cost a ton!  I asked a local bakery how much for a run of the mill, three tier cake that would feed 100 people. Ready? $500. Ouch.  That was not going to fit into our budget.  Going the small cake route, we had more than enough cake for 120 people and it only cost $250. Half! For the same amount of cake!  If you are in the area, definitely check out The Dutch Bakery, it has great cakes but it also serves lunch and delicious pastries! It is family owned and run and is just a great little spot.

Bryan’s mother was so generous, she bought us the Lenox cake topper (which we placed on the table because we weren’t sure if the cake could hold it up. And by the looks of it, the cake couldn’t even hold itself up!) as well as a Lenox cake cutting set which she later had engraved for us. (Thanks Mary Ellen!!)

mmmm, now I want some cake.
