We Met in a Bar

we have a winner!

Well people, this weekend I officially sewed something.  I admit, as I tried to do it for the first time the bobbin thread wasn’t catching and I had to call my mother, who immediately drove the 2 minutes over to my place to show me how it is done (thanks mom!).  once I practiced a little I got to work hemming our curtains! I don’t have any pictures, mostly because they are pretty cheap curtains to being with and have been totally beaten up by our cats. Not pretty. But the end result wasn’t too shabby, and I am excited to move on to other things.

Which brings me to the next exciting piece of news, we bought a desk!  A few days back I was thinking about how it is perfectly normal to sew on the kitchen table, so why not buy a kitchen table? All we were looking for was something white, long, basic and inexpensive. Which we found with the Melltorp dining tale at IKEA.  For $69.99 it was a steal!  We also bought the new Alex drawer unit. It was a little pricey but will provide great storage and has the look we are going for. We will be sliding it underneath the table.

We haven’t put the Alex together yet, but once we do I will get a picture up.  I am so excited to have a sewing table!  It will also be a great crafting/invitation making station.  The possibilities are endless…

I thought of you when I saw some Steelcase desks last weekend, but they were a) in Illinois and b) expensive. I like the Ikea option, happy sewing!

My sewing table is an Ikea table, too! It also doubles as my scrapbook/craft table and my school/office area. I have the Expedit with a desk and 3 Helmer cabinets lined up next to it. They are perfect for storing all my tools and threads and such and the Expedit holds all my books and magazines. Pricey (for me) but the very best investment ever – I am creating so much more than I have in the past years. Good luck to you – leave everything out and you’ll always work on something!

This is totally off topic to your post, but I saw a post on a blog that showcased your wedding colors that I know you loved so much and I wanted to pass the link along. I looked for an email to send it to but didn’t see anything so I apologize that this is getting posted in your comments section. I hope you like the post.

Melltorp and Alex!! That’s exactly the setup I have at work and home!! I was so frustrated that Ikea don’t have any decent sized desks, then discovered their 1.75m Melltorp dining table – best desk ever ;)

Nice blog BTW :)
