We Met in a Bar

cushion

I have been in need of a pin cushion and I could not bring myself to buy one of the red tomatoes. I know they are a classic, and they do the job, and if you have one, great, but I just couldn’t have one of those sitting on my sewing table.  This has led me to almost 6 months of going without because I couldn’t find on I liked, and couldn’t decide what kind to make. Finally I settled on Martha’s heirloom tomato pattern from this book, but I put my own twist on it. And by twist I mean green patterned fabric and a purple felt heart in the middle. It is a little lopsided and could have used a bit more stuffing, but it will do the job. And it doesn’t remind me of a vegetable.

That’s so cute! I’ve been thinking of making my own pin cushion, too, to avoid the red tomatoes. I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet, though.

This is sooo cute!! Way better than a tomato, I say. :) I should bring out my sewing machine just so I can make something like that!

That fabric looks familiar! :) Love the pincushion, it is SO much better than a tomato.

Joyce: actually this was all done by hand! No machine required. Cut a bit circle, do one of those long stitches all around, stuff if, cinch it, add a topper… that’s about it!

holly: yes! I love that fabric! I have some of the pink and I can’t decide what to make because I want to make EVERYTHING with it :)
