We Met in a Bar

half way there

baby bump-005

20 weeks

-I can’t believe we are half way there already!

- Starting this week the baby is measured by length, rather than weight, so we are now at a carrot.

-If all goes according to plan, we will be finding out on Thursday the sex of the baby (and you’ll see one of these two pictures up!)

baby bump-006.2 baby bump-007.2

- This week I started looking at registry stuff. I think we are going to go with Babies-R-Us (although I would love to hear your opinions!!) so I downloaded their “must-haves” registry checklist. The thing is 5 pages long and reminded me how little I know about baby stuff.

- Also this week I contacted a doula that my friend referred to me. She also teaches a Hypnobabies class so we are looking into that. I am torn between Hypnobabies and the Bradley method…

- I have gotten 2 migraines in the past week, which are not very fun considering Exedrine Migraine is on the list of things you can’t use while pregnant.

- I stopped a mom on the street to ask her about her BOB stroller. After talking strollers for 5 minutes she asked if I was expecting. Apparently my bump isn’t as huge as I think it is. (She loves the BOB btw)

- Although we can’t wait to find out the sex, I am really just praying that the baby is healthy and the right size and has enough fluid, etc. We can’t wait to see the little bean, since the last time we had an ultrasound was at 7 weeks and it resembled a gummy bear.

You look so adorable Heather! Enjoying keeping up with your blog through this exciting time, and love that it’s not turning into ALL baby posts, as a lot of blogs seem to do. You’re doing an awesome job of keeping those of us at different stages interested and continuing to provide me with awesome inspiration!

We registered at Babies-R-Us and Wishpot.com. BRU is nice, but I’ve found that you can find some of the items for cheaper on other sites… hence signing up on Wishpot, as well. On Wishpot, people can contribute without having to buy the item completely… but the return process probably isn’t as smooth. We haven’t had to worry about that yet, though.

We ordered the BOB. I’ve heard so many great things about it.

Heather Congrats!!! Now comes all the fun stuff registering and really starting to prepare for baby. My husband and I did hypnobabies. We were planning a home birth. I ended up having an emergency c-section, my daughter was breech and my water broke and I in labor. I was in denial that it was labor, I thought that the discomfort was going to help the baby turn. I ended up putting on one of my hypnobabies c.ds and during that time never felt anything. If you do choose hypnobabies you have to practice. I listened to the c.d’s all the time my hubby didn’t practice with me much. The next time around we will work better together.

The B.O.B is a must have! I use mine everyday. I actually got rid of my stroller that came with my car seat because I only use the BOb. I would get the car seat adapter and make sure that it is compatible with your car seat.

The must haves that I can think of right off the top of my head are:
a baby video monitor. My daughter is a light sleeper and I wish I didn’t have to walk in her room to check on her. I may be upgrading soon. I love my wipe warmer. If you are breastfeeding get a pump even if you aren’t going to be working. Don’t get to many newborn stuff they grow out of it so fast. Oh ya a bassinet, we kept Jericho in it for 4-5 months. If I can think of any more I will let you know.

If you aren’t going back to work or during your maternity leave join a mom’s group or stroller strides. I love my stroller strides group, it is so nice having adults who are going through the same things to talk to. Plus you will see once you have a baby all you talk about is baby, I’m sure your already starting to see that. My stroller strides group meets right across from St. Margaret’s. You are welcome to come check it out anytime. We meet at 9Am, occasionally we get coffee or tea together after. Just let me know if you are ever interested.

How exciting finding out the sex this week.

Take care,

Beth

I registered at Target and was pretty pleased with it.

I took the Bradley classes and LOVED it! It focuses on teaching your hubby/coach how to support you – that really made me feel great when I was in labor. Good luck choosing a class!

heather – you look fabulous. so fun to watch the bump growing!

a quick thought on the registry and the “must haves.” i think companies do a really good job playing off a woman’s nervousness about becoming a mom for the first time and present the solution to that as buying a ton of stuff. people get into the mind frame that more stuff makes things easier. i believe that when it comes to “must haves” with a baby, it’s really a car seat, a place to sleep, clothes to keep warm, food (you or formula) and diapers. obviously i used more stuff than that, but it felt good to make really conscious decisions about what to bring into our house and our baby’s life.

So..I read your blog during your wedding planning (as I was planning my wedding at the exact same time). I got so many fabulous ideas from you :) It’s been awhile since I have visited here…and now I see that you are pregnant…and my husband and I are in our 2nd month of trying. You and I are just about the same age too…and I feel that maybe we’re on the same life schedule or something :) Well..let’s hope at least. I’m praying that this is the month for us…but we shall see! What wonderful news that you are expecting. Enjoy every second!! Please come say hello sometime :)

You look adorable :-) Those little onesies are precious!

The lack of Excedrin Migraine in my life is pretty much my biggest fear when it comes to being pregnant. Hang in there with those migraines.

Honey, you do not need 5 pages of baby stuff. That is all marketing. Truly. All your baby really needs is love and your boobs. Everything else is just clutter. Trust your instincts when you register – remember, you can always buy what you find you actually need after the baby is born.

That’s all I need too!

Thanks for all of the great comments and advice!
Sara: I feel pretty lucky that I got to 19 weeks without any migrains, as I used to get them once a month. I am hoping that these past two are just a fluke and not a sign of things to come.
B: oh my. I am not sure all of my readers needed to know that. Also, I will remember that next time you are asking for dinner. :)

Heather,
Contratulations!! I am so excited for you and it makes it even more real knowing that you are going to be a mommy to a little boy. You are going to be fantastic!! I am so sorry to hear about the migraines. As you know, I have suffered from them since I was 7 years old and they are truly the pits – definitely aggrivated by hormones!! I live on aspirin-free Excedrin, but after my doctor reminded me about rebound headaches, I started looking for some alternative ways to deal with them. Regularly power-walking helps enourmously and yesterday I picked up a product by Aveda at the hair salon. It is a little tube called “Blue Oil”. You can rub it on your temples, the back of your neck. All natural and I tried it this morning as I woke up with a headache. It really brought great relief. Sending you lots of love and best wishes and I absolutely LOVE your blog. You are sooooo creative!!
