my day: the cakes!
mmmm the cakes.
Some of you may remember the Gelato debacle. So we decided to go with a bakery in San Juan Capistrano that Bryan has been going to for lunch for years, The Dutch Bakery. We ended up ordering all three types of cakes, 2 or 3 of each, to feed everyone.

(note the center cake… it was totally sinking! But it still tasted just as good!)

Tips: Traditional wedding cakes can be beautiful, but they can also cost a ton! I asked a local bakery how much for a run of the mill, three tier cake that would feed 100 people. Ready? $500. Ouch. That was not going to fit into our budget. Going the small cake route, we had more than enough cake for 120 people and it only cost $250. Half! For the same amount of cake! If you are in the area, definitely check out The Dutch Bakery, it has great cakes but it also serves lunch and delicious pastries! It is family owned and run and is just a great little spot.
Bryan’s mother was so generous, she bought us the Lenox cake topper (which we placed on the table because we weren’t sure if the cake could hold it up. And by the looks of it, the cake couldn’t even hold itself up!) as well as a Lenox cake cutting set which she later had engraved for us. (Thanks Mary Ellen!!)
mmmm, now I want some cake.

Here are some details from Bryan’s cousin’s recent wedding. Which also happened to be our first as Mr. and Mrs.

Jeep Love pt. 2
My cousin just got married this past weekend (congratulations Erin!) and I couldn’t help but post a few pictures from their gorgeous wedding! I posted their engagement shoot here and if you forgot, her husband loves him some Jeeps! They were married in Alaska which provided a gorgeous backdrop, and the groom’s mom made the awesome cake!!

You can find more pictures at Philip Casey Photography Blog. Congratulations Erin! I love you!!!

one more day…
I need one more day off. Tomorrow can’t be Monday already… can it? Ugh. The weekend went by so quickly. We went up to Ventura for a memorial, had dinner on the pier and then I spent a good portion of today shopping and then eating at my moms house. A weekend full of good things, but a busy one. I now need a day of rest. Let me get to the stuff you are interested in before I bore myself, and you, with more boring details
Some gorgeous shoes from the one and only J. Crew

And a wedding filled with gorgeous details by the one and only Matthew Morgan.

mmmmm
Did you see this ‘cake’ in the latest Martha Stewart Wedding magazine? I want one! Actually I could probably go make one… hmmm…

They will ship them anywhere in the U.S.! And next time I am in New York, I will definitely have to stop by their shop.
Happy Friday, have a great weekend!

flowers
I just mailed off the florist deposit, wooohoooo! Another thing on my mind… fresh flowers on our cakes. Since we won’t be having the traditional wedding cake, all decorated with sugary goodness, I am thinking a few fresh dahlias on each cake might really spruce things up

you only do this once!
So last night Samantha (little sister/MOH) and I went to a small bridal show at a local restaurant. Not so bad you may think, but I don’t need any vendors. ANY. But who could say no to free food, wine, and cake?! Tasting the cake almost made me want a big wedding cake. Almost.

Other than that the event was so so. Spoke with the Cookie Lee lady about appropriate Catholic Church jewelry (it was not appropriate), was told by the videographer that I would totally regret not having a video of my wedding. I told him his fee was 1/5 of my total budget. Was told by the skin care guy that good skin wasn’t important for the wedding, it was important for the honeymoon…
Oh well, free food and people congratulating m all night was worth it
