double time
Our favors serve two purposes. One: for people to take flowers home and Two: for people to not take our mason jars home.
I bought cello baggies at Target.

Designed and printed out labels using labels from Stuck.

The finished project
We will put a few under each centerpiece for people to take flowers home after the reception, and to discourage them from walking out with our collection of mason jars (which started waaaay before any wedding talks
)

the cellar
The cellar is a semi-new wine bar in San Clemente and it is one of our favorite new places. It serves delicious tapas style food, serves its water from glass bottles and poured into mason jars.

They also have an awesome looking menu.

The menu changes every few months and during the day they sell cheeses and wine out of the front of the place. They have live piano every night and stay open late, which in San Clemente means anything open after 9pm
I would totally recommend it for a small daytime reception or rehearsal lunch. The place is gorgeous, the food is delicious… it really is a win win.

in need of…
… a poster to go inside a frame for our “guestbook”. Some people do engagement pictures, we do posters. Bryan said we should design our own… which we are more than capable of doing. But you know what else I am capable of doing? Buying things online, like this

activity books!!
Update: You can now download a generic version of my activity books here!
Happy Monday! It is a new day, a new week and I have a new attitude! God has blessed me with this job and I need to start seeing it as the blessing that it is rather than something bringing me down. I am going to plan out dinners and try to walk on my lunch breaks to get energy. I am going to make the best out of the situation I am in. I am so blessed to even have a job right now, I know others haven’t had the same luck. For what it is worth, if you are looking for a job right now and haven’t visited a staffing agency I would recommend going to one. Apple One got me the interview at my company
These took forever for me to post, sorry! They were fun to make and a breeze to put together. I can’t wait to see the kids use them!

I used italian cotton ribbon from this etsy seller to bind the books.

The back cover is perforated for them to tear out so we can keep the picture or note they make for us. I am preparing myself for the reality that not all the kids will do this, but that’s ok

I hope the kiddos like them as much as I do!

sofia…
… was my name in spanish class
And then when I worked as a server and the bussers and cooks would have a hard time pronouncing ‘Heather’ I told them to call me Sofia. So maybe i just like the name. Maybe it is the pink cans. Maybe I just love champagne. Whatever it is, I love it!

mock it up
So this past weekend I got started on some of my wedding projects that aren’t necessary for a few months, but I just couldn’t wait
The first of which is the kids activity book for during the reception. I plan on doing a full on kids table with kraft paper for a table cloth, centerpieces of candy and toys and these little activity books. This is just my first mock up, and it needs some tweaking (as well as some card stock rather than cheap printer paper) and some grey or marigold thread rather than the brown shown here, but I am pretty excited about them
They were easy to make and will end up being super cheap since they are just paper and thread!

I found all of the images on vecteezy and from google searches for wedding vectors and then tweaked each one to work for this project.

We will only have 5 or 6 kids there, but I want their parents to be able to enjoy the party! The kids range in age so some of the activities (connect the dots for example) are super simple, where others (word search) will take some reading skills
And that is a homemade word search, so you know.

For the final books I will pull the “draw us a picture” page to the inside back page and then just leave the back cover blank, probably with a little “made by heather” at the bottom or something. I will use my little perforator to perforate the page so that the kids can easily tear them out for us to keep.

Again, they need some work but all in all I am happy with how they will come out! Later I will post our program mock ups as well as our address label mock ups

quite the turnout
Well look at all of you delurking! You must have felt pretty strongly about that bow huh?! haha I love that so many of you commented, you should do it more often! This whole blogging thing is such a community, a support for all of us whose friends have had it with us talking wedding all the time. If I had asked my friends “bow or no bow?” they probably would have said ‘meh’ and I would have had to decide on my own!
So, thank you for your comments, we will for sure be going no bow on the taller thinner jars and I am gonna experiment with bows (around the neck!) on the actual Ball jars, since they have a more prominent neck to hold the ribbon
I will post pictures soon!
Oh, and an update (cause you all are my community
) on the gelato! So we said we would give them till February, it is February, so we dropped them. The last real email I sent them was over 2 weeks ago asking some detailed questions about the size of the cart, what the set up entailed etc. and I heard nothing back. I mean, I first contacted them in August, and the most I have gotten out of them is a price sheet and finding out we were on their calendar… I do not want to work with a company that has such horrible communication. So I sent them (the store manager and I cc’d his manager) this email:
“Due to a lack of communication on your part, we will no longer be needing your services for our July 18th event.”
Well, who do you think called me yesterday?! The managers manager! Ha At first he had no idea what they had done wrong. I had to explain to him that sending me a price sheet and saying I am on your calendar isn’t exactly the details I was looking for. He tried to say that they just always say ‘yes’ to their customers so they didn’t think much into it. By the end of the conversation I had gotten across to him that I am planning an event (a low-key-no-stress-least-event-ever-event) and needed a few more details than a price sheet and a “see you in july!” He was very nice and very apologetic and maybe we will use them for our kids first birthday party. But not the wedding. Not my big event
SO. We stopped by a local bakery Saturday and spoke to the owner and got a list of their cakes. Want to hear one?
Princess: Three layer white cake filled with fresh bavarian cream and raspberries, surrounded with roasted hazelnuts and topped with fresh whipped cream and a layer of marzipan.
mmmmmmm
I am excited. We are definitely in the ‘reception’ planning stage, so I am reposting my own reception inspiration board, just as a reminder
Have a good morning everyone!!

give me your number
My mom has a roladex. It is awesome. It is basic and plain and super old, but it serves its purpose perfectly. I have always wanted one, but the ones I find are always all fancy looking. I am drawn to this image because it looks like a basic roladex, kind of, and you don’t have to fill it all out because people do it for you

oh monday
Back to work Monday
I say we move to the 4 day work week here in America. Let’s get a vote going and then I will send it to Obama.
In other news, the gelato guy has STILL not emailed me back. We said we would give him until February… which is a mere 5 days away… After that, small cakes it is!

From here.
